Bet you haven't seen anything else quite like this-- three mandolins tearing up fiddle tunes and jazz standards.  Steve Tourtellotte, Jason Bailey, and Sam Pointer each has a unique mandolin style, and the interplay between the three is something you have to hear to believe...especially when they break into tight three-part harmony on a fast fiddle tune.

Of course, even diehard mandolin fans could use some low end and some vocals once in a while, so they also play part of each set with Steve on acoustic guitar, Jason on mandolin, Sam on bass, and everybody singing. This configuration features some bluegrass from acts like Flatt and Scruggs, Hot Rize, and the Seldom Scene, plus classic rock and folk from acts like Van Morrison, Dan Fogelberg, Cat Stevens, Dr. John, and Johnny Cash, and a few of Sam's originals too.

This band fell into place one night at Otey's, a neighborhood bar in Birmingham, Alabama.  Steve had booked a gig playing guitar and singing, and he invited Jason to join him on mandolin, then Jason asked Sam to sit in on bass. After the show, the three of them sat around a table of friends playing triple mandolins for an hour.  it was so much fun they decided to book a second gig and this time bring all three mandolins onstage, and it just picked up steam from there.

By the way, Steve is an instrument maker of growing renown, and he built the mandolin and guitar he plays with Mando Trois.
